Navratri Puja Vidhi - Procedure of Navratri Pooja
Navratri is amongst the most important Hindu festivals. This auspicious festival is celebrated with great zeal and devotion throughout the country. The literal meaning of 'Navratri' is 'nine auspicious nights'. Navratri is a pious festival celebrated in the honor of nine different forms of the Goddess Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati for nine continuous days. The Goddess of Power is worshipped during these days in order to seek her blessings and protection from any unknown fear and possible threat. The devotees ask for peace and prosperity from the Goddess. The Goddess of power has the supremacy over the creation, preservation and destruction of the universe.
Navratri is being celebrated in our country adhering to all the customs and rituals. It is of utmost importance to know the exact method of performing the Navratri Pooja. Here, is the full Navratri Pooja Vidhi.
Items to be required for the Navratri Pooja:
• Picture or Idol of Goddess Durga in the Pooja room
• A dupatta or sari to offer to the deity
• Durga Saptshati book
• Ganga water or plain water in Kalash (pitcher)
• Fresh and washed mango leaves
• Fresh grass
• Sandalwood
• One coconut
• Roli, red sacred powder for tilak
• Moli, red sacred thread
• Rice
• Supari (Areca nuts)
• Paan (Betel leaves)
• Cloves
• Cardamom
• Kumkum (vermilion)
• Gulal
You will need incense sticks, a 'deep' and a matchstick. You will also require some fresh flowers like rose, jasmine or red hibiscus. You may offer fresh fruits and sweets such as 'laddoo', or 'peda' for prasad. Take a mat, to sit. If possible, every member of the house should sit together.
Navratri Pooja Vidhi:
For performing the Navratri Pooja, you need to wake up early in the morning. Get up sharp at the sunrise. This time is considered best to perform the Navratri Pooja. Take bath and wear laundered clothes. Keep 'deep' at the left side of the deity. Try to light the 'Akhand Jyot'. Keep in mind that you should not leave the house vacant if you are lighting the 'Akhand Jyot'. Someone must stay back at home. On the right hand side of the idol, keep incense sticks etc. Keep yourself prepared to do the Puja with full devotion and concentration. Keep the kalash and coconut as well. Lay the mat and sit in an upright position in front of the deity. Light the 'deep'. Ring the bell or blow the 'Shankh'.
For 'Kalash Sthapna':
Place the kalash near the idol or picture of the deity and fill it with pure water. Place mango leaves on the mouth of the kalash. Place a coconut inside the kalash. Tie moli around the neck of the kalash.
Sprinkle 'Gangajal' all over the Puja room. Now, offer sandalwood powder and some fresh grass to the Goddess. Then, offer the sari or dupatta to the Goddess. Place some fresh flowers in front of the Goddess. Next, offer 'paan' with a clove placed on it. If you are married, then offer two such paans. Light 'agarbatti' or incense sticks. Perform 'havan' using this mantra- "Om aing hreeng kleeng chamundaya vichche namah". Give aahuti for 11 times. Fold your hands and pray. At last, offer prasad and do aarti of Goddess Durga. Sing the "Kshama Prarthana" of the 13th chapter of sacred Durga Saptshati and conclude the Puja. Pray with whole heart.
The Durga Saptashati book should be kept carefully and respectfully.
Celebration of 'Mahanavami' in India:
The ninth day of Navratri, popularly known as 'Mahanavami' is the final day of Navratri celebrations. The celebration of 'Mahanavami' varies from state to state in India.
People of different states celebrate Mahanavami in their own way. People from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Punjab do 'Kanya Puja' on the last day. On the concluding day, nine young girls are invited in the house and feasted with delicious food. These nine young girls are treated as the nine forms of the Goddess. They are welcomed by washing their feet and putting tilak on their forehead.
The people of Kerala celebrate Saraswati Pooja on 'Ashtami', the eighth day or the day before Mahanavami. The concluding day is treated as the resting day. People do not begin with any new work and even children do not study this day.
Navratri celebrations end on 'Ashtami' instead of Mahanavami in some parts of Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Kashmir and Maharashtra.
The people of West Bengal celebrate Durga Pooja with great enthusiasm and devotion. Huge 'Pandal' (tent) is set up and a huge idol of Goddess Durga is installed in the 'Pandal' and worshipped. On Mahanavami, the idol of Goddess Durga is bid adieu and immersed in the sea or river or any flowing source of water.
The festival of Navratri is divided into the sets of three days. These sets are formulated to worship the different forms of the Goddess. On the first three days, Goddess Durga is revered and worshipped. She is known to be the master of power and eliminates all the evil and fear from the mind and life of the devotees. The next three days are devoted to the Goddess of wealth- Lakshmi. She showers the blessings of never-ending wealth upon her devotees. The final set of three days is devoted for worshipping the Goddess of wisdom- Saraswati. She is responsible for spiritual enlightenment and success in life.
The Goddesses are worshipped under nine different names and in nine different characters during the nine prosperous days. The first form of Goddess Durga is 'Shailputri' meaning the 'Goddess of Himalayas' is worshipped on the first day. The second form of Goddess Durga is 'Brahmacharini', worshipped on the second day. Her name is derived from the word 'Brahma'. On the third day, the Goddess is worshipped as 'Chandraghanta'. She symbolizes beauty and bravery.
The Goddess 'Kushmanda' is worshipped on the fourth day. She is believed to be the creator of the universe. On the fifth day, 'Skanda Mata' is worshipped. She is the mother of the chief warrior of the God's Army, Skand. The sixth day is devoted for the Goddess 'Katyayani', who has three eyes and four hands.
The Goddess 'Kalratri' is worshipped on the seventh day of Navratri. She is as black as the night and takes away all the fears from the devotees. The Goddess 'Maha Gauri' is worshipped on the eighth day of Navratri. She is the epitome of beauty and as white as the snow. She represents calmness and wisdom. The ninth day, also known as 'Mahanavami', is the concluding day of Navratri. Goddess 'Siddhidatri' is worshipped on the last day of Navratri.
Navratri is a festival of sentiments, positive thoughts, peace and prosperity. Every year it is welcomed with great respect and love. People refrain from wrong deeds and indulge in pure devotion. Wish you a Happy Navratri

Then the seer that you bring offer to Durgai Amman and make sure Durgai Amman must be in Karungkal Amman if can(recommended). Do archanai and put the thali to Durgai Amman. WHY YOU SHOULD DO THIS BECAUSE, YOUR ARE TRANSFERRING YOUR DHOSAM TO AMMA and AMMA WILL TAKE IT. Then do prayers to Lord Sevvai, Raghu and Kethu by putting nei vilakku. Ok on that day you can take ubayam and give summangali auspicious item and get the blessing from them. Ask summangali to place kunguman on your forehead. Try to put lime vilakku on Raghu kaalam.
Then continuously put vilakku for Nagamma every week. Tell amma that "I’M NORMAL HUMAN BEING THAT NEED A FAMILY LIFE AND I NEED YOU TO FIND A GOOD LIFE FOR ME, AMMA I WILL NEVER FORGET YOU AND CONTINUE PRAYING TO YOU"
Every Saturday pray to Raghu Bhagawan and thursday offer prayers to Kethu Bhagawan. Offer Nagamma milk and nei villakku and if you can go to any temple that got Naga puthru then it will be good remedies.
Do not forget to do prayers to Lord Murugan as he also will control the effect of Nagadhosam. (you can see his vahana peapock is stepping on the snake).

DURGAI AMMAN
Usually chandi homam and sokta homam is done for Durgai amman. This homan is to make all Durgai arms(hand) charged (activate). Priest will offer 18 parts of offering to 18 DURGAI and each parts will have Thali, sarees or cloth of 18 colours, pisang merah, madulam fruit(buah delima), bangles and many more. Amma will be very happy because this homam is done to celebrate the victory ove...r the evil. End of each offering priest will praise amma with this words "JAYA JAYA".
We should participate or see(having darshan) of the homam. Only certain temple is doing MAHA CHANDI HOMAN every month.
If you know any temple doing chandi homam or sokta homam, what you can do is, if you have money related problem buy kalkandu, honey, elekai, ghee to be offered to the homam, your money problem will solve and will get good result.
You can put lime garland and kunguman for protection, milk for aiyul, if you have Raaghu Kethu dhosam offer mulu ulunthu (grains to make vadai) and koollu (horse gram).

Please add this item a part of the vegetables. Rice, tamarind, dry chilli,salt, onion, potato,turmeric.
Remember priest should able to cook your item given (cook rice , sambar and vegetables for his meals). Whether he will cook or not it no your problem, just do your responsibility. offer and donate to him.
Other things that you can give is dakhsina. Is a must. You can give milk powder where it is same as you donate a cow.

First we are human being and we thank to our ancestors(pitru), without them our grand parent and our parent and even we are not here then we thank god to create them.
Ammavasai is auspicious day for our ancestor(pithru) and departure soul. The most important thing that we must not forget to do is putting moksa vilakku to Lord Shiva for our ancestors or to deceased soul in our family.
Ma...ny confuse whether need to offer prayer in main Shivan temple or any Shivan Sannithi.As long there is Lord Shiva in the temple you can offer prayers. Do you know that we can also offer moksha deepam for Lord Perumal?
Please be vegetarian on ammavasai. Do not eat brinjal (terung - kattirikai) on that day and do not cook brinjal in your house. It is said if you cut a brinjal on ammavasai , you are cutting a bhramanan (bhramin's)
Don’t eat old cooked food, It means do not eat food that cooked on last day and you eat newly cooked food.Try to avoid it. Even you are working please try to avoid it. Eat food which is prepared newly and fresh.
If you are preparing food for your ancestors (padayal) in your house, please make sure you offer before 1pm and offer to crow first. When going to do tharpanam please wear vesti. Do prayers for all departure soul. You can offer tarpanam for 12 generation on your father side and mother side.
Clear your pithru debts. Remember each and every one of us came to this world with 100% of burden of previous birth on 50% of the your previous birth debts can be cleared but another 50% you have to carry the burden, experience the pain of suffering and difficulties.

Once padayal has been offered to them, please make a move from that place for a moment so that you will not interrupt when they enjoying the meal. It is better to do it in main hall of your house. Ok the most important thing that you must not forget is, once the padayal prayers is done, after awhile please pull the banana leaf forward or move it abit front. This is a sign that they will take all your offering and back to their own place.

Then the next morning cook hot white rice mixed the black ellu (that you keep under your pillow) then look for crow feed them. Take a peice of banana leave or paper plate put at place where you can see crow assemble, leave it there and watch from far whether the crow eating the rice or not. Then go to temple and do prayers for Saniswaran (This must be done on Saturday's). Its not easy to please crow to eat your offering but prayer hard, do it non stop for 9 weeks. Lotus flower, jasmine flower,milk, coins, thulasi, mangalkungumam.
Light up your house kuthu vilakku. decorate a bit.
Keep one big tray infront of Mahalaksmi, light a ghee lamp put on the tray, put the coins, flower and all the item on the tray. keep your wallet and money bag at the altar. Then start your normal prayers do pooja for Maha Ganapathy then all other deities in house.
Put sambrani again for Mahalakshmi, then offer the prasadham that you make for her. Now wave sudam for her.

Procedure for making Lime lamp (elumiccai vilakku)
This can be done in any temple with Durga or Amman Sannathi and it can also be done at home.
1) Take a big Lime if can take yellow Lime .wash it and cut it into half.
2) Remove the juice (squeeze it). Keep the juice.
Turn the skin upside down. So that the smooth side goes inside.
3) Level the outer skin so that the lamp can sit
properly.
4) Put thiri and nei or nallennai in a tray or
place it at the table provided by the temple.
5) Present it do Durgai Amma.
- *the juice what you can do is give to temple for abishegam or mixed with little bit of sugar and provide to Amman in your house. She loves that.
- *you can present it with yellow rice (wet the raw rice with turmeric, then put the lime vilakku on top)
- * keep doing and "DO NOT DO FOR CERTAIN PERIOD ONLY"
- *don’t forget to do archanai.

It should be placed on a small tray and kept in the middle facing east (very auspicious). You can keep on the left of your Istha Deivam.
You may keep the vilakku facing north, Never ev...er placed it facing SOUTH. Do not use eversilver lamp.
How to keep our vilakku in the best condition. Remember based from our vilakku, we can know how is a situation of one house, because Goddess Mahalakshmi reside in the vilakku. You can see all the Asthalakshmi(8 Mahalakshmi ) in one villaku.
Ok keep coin in the vilakku, it means put like 10sen, 20sen, 50sen inside the vilakku, dip in to the oil. Under the villaku you can place Sri chakra or Rice or Mahalaksmi printed coins. Usually chandi homam and sokta homam is done for Durgai amman. This homan is to make all Durgai arms(hand) charged (activate). Priest will offer 18 parts of offering to 18 DURGAI and each parts will have Thali, sarees or cloth of 18 colours, pisang merah, madulam fruit(buah delima), bangles and many more. Amma will be very happy because this homam is done to celebrate the victory ove...r the evil. End of each offering priest will praise amma with this words "JAYA JAYA".

The Story of Pradosh Fasting – Pradosha Vrat Katha
Pradosh Vrat, also known as Pradosham, is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati. The Pradosha fasting and rituals are observed on the 13th day of lunar fortnight. There is an interesting story mentioned in the Puranas which narrate the origin of the Pradosh Fasting. The Pradosh vrat katha is associated with Samudurmanthana or Churning of ocean and Lord Shiva drinking the poison Halahala.
To get Amrita or the elixir of life, Devas and Asuras started the Samudra Manthan or churning of ocean on the advice from Lord Vishnu. The churning of the ocean produced the terrible poison Halahala which had the capacity to devour the universe.
Lord Shiva came to the rescue of the Devas and Demons and he drank the poison Halahala. The demons and gods continued the churning of the ocean and finally they got the Amrut or elixir on the twelfth day of lunar fortnight.
The Devas and Asuras thanked Lord Shiva on the thirteenth day. Pleased with the devotion, Lord Shiva is believed to have danced between the horns of Nandi – the bull. The time when Shiva was extremely happy was the Pradosham period or the twilight time.
It is believed that Lord Shiva is extremely happy during this period and blesses all this devotees and fulfills their wishes during the Pradosh period on Trayodashi day.
